On the 9th January the
radio station closed down for the fitting out of the new studio's: plus
the installation of the AM transmission system. The station also closed
it's appeal for funds which had started one year earlier.
A 24hour darts marathon
by the Pinewood darts team was organized on behalf of the radio.
On Monday the 8th
February, the sustaining service on Radio Heatherwood is switched on.
The first code of
conduct is introduced for the presenters to follow: known as the blue book
it was the first written attempt to combat bad practices by the staff .
The first AM test
transmission by the station was on the 20th February at 5.35 til 5.45pm .
Radio Heatherwood is
live on 999khz Easter Saturday. The new service broadcasts from 2pm till
10pm,with a mixture of programs. The Mayor of Windsor officially
inaugurates the new service. The first record to be played on the new
medium wave service Abba: Thank you for the music.
The introduction of
staff training and implementation of the program play list were
introduced.
The fete was opened
this year by the former newsreader Kenneth Kendall. The proceedings for
the day are relayed to the patients, for the first time on the Medium
Wave. Two presenters from the radio station dressed up this year to
entertain the small children on the green: Sylvester & Tweety pie: Viv Lewis
& Tony Horder.
In June this year the
cable for the bed head units in ward 10 was cut during building work for
the new pharmacy. Despite numerous attempts over the years the service was
never restored.
The staff newsletter
made a return to the notice board. A monthly update of all the stories
which develop.
The Charity Buzz this
year raises £950 for the Station. A summer trip to North Devon and an Xmas
special to West Somerset railway.
The first grand draw raffle
tickets were sold in Bracknell bandstand on a Saturday in August: £55
realized.
The station purchased a
computer to run the station library.
The last charity night
at the Stag Public house is held. The departure of Ann & Tommy McCarthy
landlords was a blow to
us. They were
great supporters of the radio service.
The first adverts in
the press for new presenters were published.
The new style
application form, is introduced for all new entrants to the radio.
In November Trevor
Kensall represented the radio station at the opening of the new Emi unit
by Princess Anne.
Radio 210 broadcast a
special Xmas morning program from Rainbow ward with the assistance of
Radio Heatherwood.
